Why Get Involved?

Are you disillusioned with the traditional outlets to express yourself politically, given so many corrupt politicians and the non-participative ‘democracy’ we live in?

When Gluaiseacht began in 2000, we too felt this way and we latched on to the feelings of empowerment which we connected to strongly at the COP6 demonstrations in the Hague (2000) as well as through the Faslane and Sellafield protests we engaged in over the early years of Gluaiseacht (see about Gluaiseacht for more info). Since then, Gluaiseacht has grown into a support network for new-comers and more experienced activists wishing to find places to exchange ideas and skills in Ireland.

Gluaiseacht's all-island network offers great ways of supporting people involved or wishing to get involved in different types of environmental and social justice issues around Ireland.

Connect-4
Want to meet like-minded people? Gluaiseacht participants are based in many parts of the island of Ireland. There's no formal membership. If you wish to get involved or have a project/campaign which you feel fits into our objectives (link to objectives page?) get in contact and let's get connected. The network is as valuable as you make it. Having a sense of community in activism is a huge motivator to making things happen!

Get Up, Stand Up, Skill Up
We organise free annual skillshares where you can participate by giving and/or partaking in workshops needed for proactive activism, from making bicycle generators, learning about open-source freeware computer programmes to gardening/permaculture and direct action workshops. We need to be prepared, not only to defend the things we believe in, but also to proactively create the world we want to live in. Email us to get involved in organising the next skillshare!

Lights, Camera, ACTION
From the beginning, Gluaiseacht has had a focus on direct action or civil disobedience strategies because we believe that these are legitimate tools, among others, to campaigning on the issues we care about. Gluaiseacht can offer connections and support to those wishing to get involved in these types of strategies, from media skills and direct action training to legal support advice. We'll do our best to hook you up with folks who can help.
